Indians and hypocrisy

The Indians are called hypocrites many times in many parts of the world. While it can be true to some extent (Debatable!), let us analyse the reasons for that. I think that it is the social background of Indians and the sentiments attached to the religion(which plays a major part in every Indian's social customs) are mainly the reasons for this. The poverty adds to our woe that we Indians don't sum up enough courage to break the shackles and come out free. Exception can only among minority of people who are forward in many aspects(as per their convenience..for example sex and marriage) but still keep double standards in their life - let it be in politics , society or their private life. What can be the real reason for this ? How we can eradicate this evil ? Inspite of the fact that we have glorious past in our history and culture, the hypocrisy pull our international image down.
